Here is a selection of Graffiti paintings from two walls that run along Shields Road, Byker close to Newcastle upon Tyne (GRID REF NZ271644). I have travelled this road many times and viewed them from the bus and was always curious to look at them more closely. So in July 2026 I set up a photo shoot of the area and was surprised at the detail and work that goes into producing the art works. I do not wish to enter the debate of graffiti being Vandalism or 'Street Art'. I'm well aware of the issue that it is also illegal to produce graffiti art. A friend of mine who is a retired head gardener of a college down south informed me that 'a weed is only a plant that is growing in the wrong place'. I'm not sure if you could use this simile in regards to graffiti. In my opinion the producers of this type of art work are gifted artists and do not randomly daub spray paint on walls. Most are designed and mapped out first and examining them closely allows you to appreciate that the artwork has hidden codes, meaning  and signatures. Anyway enough of my philosophical debating, lets have a look at some examples.

I think Picasso has had some influence on these two.

Not just walls get the treatment
